Celebrate!

As Christ Followers we are to celebrate the resurrection. We are now a new creation because of Jesus death and resurrection, we have been changed.

2 Corinthians 5:17   Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

We can’t dress up in new clothes, have makeovers, take weight loss and self help classes to be a new creation, no matter how hard the world tells us it is the only way. We are a new creation only when we are in Christ.

New Creation means something is new, different and changed that we can’t do for ourselves. It is only what God does in us because of Jesus’s death and resurrection.

How should this look in our lives?  All our old ways, attitudes, desires and plans are to be different.  We are changed from loving and serving self to loving and serving God and others.

Just as God spoke and the world was created, Jesus spoke “it is finished” at His death, accomplishing redemption. He resurrected three days later bringing new creation, appearing to His followers and giving them instructions on their purpose to share the gospel so others can be a new creation.

Ephesians 2:10 says we who are in Christ are His workmanship, literally masterpiece created for good works that God prepared beforehand so we would walk in them. As a new creation in Christ, we are God’s masterpiece to fulfill the purpose He has given us.

I am reminded of this quote from my son, Joshua “If Lent is 40 days of mourning, fasting, and preparing for Easter then the next 40 days should be parties, feasting, and celebrating the resurrection of Jesus and the resurrection that is to come.”

We need to celebrate, but not just for the short time during Easter but all year. Without the resurrection we can’t be a new creation, so celebrate!

“You make all things new ,You make all things new ,You redeem and You transform You renew and You restore ,You make all things new ,You make all things new ,And forever we will watch and worship You” (Stephen Curtis Chapman)
