Resurrection And Life

When Jesus says “I Am” He is saying He is God, expounding on what God said to Moses “I Am Who I Am.”

Jesus is saying who He is, describing His character and what he provides and it shows us that we need Him!

So far we have looked at the following in this series:
I Am the Bread of life- He is our source of life and spiritual nourishment.
I Am the Light of the world- without Him we would live in spiritual darkness.
I Am the Door-we can only be saved through Him.
I Am the Good Shepherd- He is our provider, protector and guide who leads the way.

Today we will look at “I Am the Resurrection and the Life.”
John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, “I Am the resurrection and the life, he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?

One thing I have noticed that people are generally ok with Jesus, religion and spirituality. What they don’t like to hear is Jesus is the only way and there is a resurrection. This is not new to us today, Paul even dealt with it.
In Acts 24:21 he says “other than this one statement which I shouted out while standing among them, for the resurrection of the dead I am on trial before you today”

Resurrection comes from the same root word as resurgence or rising again. God revives, restores and renews us. We were dead and He made alive to live for Him and we have a hope and a future. It is important to know and believe that Jesus is the resurrection and the life!

“The resurrection is the ground of our assurance, it is the basis for all our future hopes, and it is the source of power in our daily lives here and now. It gives us courage in the midst of persecution, comfort in the midst of trials, and hope in the midst of this world’s darkness” (John McArthur)

In 1 Corinthians 15 Paul gives us much insight into the resurrection.
In 15:3-4 he says “I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures and the He was buried and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.”

1 Peter 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

Colossians 2:13 When you were dead in your transgressions and the un-circumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions.” He continues in 3:1 “Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ keep seeking the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God” The rest of the chapter shows us how a resurrected life will look.

Romans 6:4-5, 11 “Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection….consider yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.”

Ephesians 2:4-6 “But God being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved). And raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”

This is the gospel; Jesus died, was buried and was resurrected for us who were dead. Because of this it changes us and how we live. We are no longer dead, defined by our past but we are alive in Him. We have a future and a hope!

“What you think about your future will determine how you live in the present” (Joshua Lenon)

When you believe Jesus is the resurrection and the life it will determine how you live now. If you think this is all there is and it ends in death your life can be consumed with yourself and pleasures. If you think you have no hope for the future, you will be hopeless. If you think your past determines who you are you will live as such. If you think you are defeated with no hope, you will live defeated and depressed.

BUT if you know you are alive in Christ, a new creation you will live in that hope! You will have joy and peace found in Him and a future beyond death!

Living Inside Out is knowing that resurrection changes everything!
