The-Names-of-God-560x374 title page 2

Welcome to the Names of God Bible study.

The names of God reveal the character of God, His attributes and His nature. To know His names is to know Him, to take rest and comfort in Him. Each week I will list a name with the scripture reference and we can begin this study together.

These studies are just a taste on the names of God. Hopefully it will give you some help and a desire to dig deeper into His attributes you want to learn more about. I am looking forward to learning and discussing together!

Please share your insights on the blog; I would love to hear from you!

Also, I would love to connect on Facebook and you can find me by clicking “like” in the box.

We have looked at four names so far which are in the archives.
Elohim -He is the Creator and we have been created to have purpose and meaning in our lives to give Him glory.

El Elyon- God Most High who is sovereign and in total control and we can place our confidence and trust in Him. We can accept our circumstances that He has allowed to bring about our highest good and His greatest glory.

El Roi- God who sees. When you are going through trials, He sees and knows what you are going through.

El Shaddai- God Almighty-All Powerful-All Sufficient- He is mighty to save!

Today we will look at Jehovah –jireh: The Lord will provide
Jehovah is the self-existent, covenant keeping God.
jireh- literally means “to see”- God sees, foresees, and knows all. Since God sees all, He is able to provide what is needed.

Jehovah-jireh is very significant in Abraham’s life and ours.
Finally, after all the years of waiting Abraham and Sara had their promised son!

Read Genesis 22:1-19 to see what God was asking Abraham to do and how Jehovah-jireh responded.
What did God tell Abraham to do?

How did God describe Isaac in verses 2, 12, 16 and why is that significant?

How did he respond?

What did Abraham tell his servants in verse 5 and what insight does Hebrews 11:17-19 give us about his response?

What to you learn about the lamb for the sacrifice in verses 7, 8 & 13?

In verses 15-19, what did God tell Abraham?

Isaac who was a promised child and the ram both pointed toward the promised one- Jesus.

How do the following verses compare with Genesis 22?
John 1:29 & 36
John 3:16

God provided a ram as a substitute to sacrifice in place of Isaac. Abraham learned, and we must also that God is the one that provided a sacrifice, His Son, to die as our substitute. John 8:56 records Jesus’ words to the unbelieving Jews- “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad”.

God did not ask Abraham to do anything that He would not do in the future and had already provided for.

Romans 8:5 and 32 tells us that while we were still sinners Christ died for us and that God did not spare His own son, but delivered Him over for us.

Genesis 22:14 Abraham said “In the mount of the Lord it will be provided”. Mount Moriah is significant. Solomon built the temple here and it is in the same ridge where Jesus died.

Salvation is our greatest need that God provided for us!

He also sees, knows and provides for our daily needs. Philippians 4:19 tells us “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

Thank God that He provided His one and only Son to be the lamb for our sins!

Praise Jehovah-jireh-our Provider!

THAT was so cool!! I never had any idea that Mt. Moriah where that happened was the same ridge as Golgotha!! I love nuggets like that that just scream – HA! God’s woven tapestry on this earth is far more intricate and perfect than we can EVEN comprehend!!! If it is so with the Word, it is so in my life AND THAT is very easy to forget…..
